Immersed in nature and in a particularly evocative context, dominated by the mountain and with breathtaking views of the valley. A little further on stands the mighty silhouette of Vesuvius.
A magical place where time seems to have stopped. A site of unspeakable beauty which unfortunately, even today, does not enjoy the right attention. Despite having been awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO along with the nearby Royal Palace of Caserta.
Yet, visiting the monumental complex of the Belvedere of San Leucio, you almost immediately end up being fascinated.
Almost immediately it becomes clear why Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, way back in 1773, was so fascinated by this place.
And today, almost intact, you can admire the treasures of that time and, above all, you can get an even more specific and unique overall picture of the Bourbon era.
HOW TO GET TO THE BELVEDERE OF SAN LEUCIO
The monumental complex is located in Via del setificio, 5, in San Leucio di Caserta.
It is preferable to arrive independently, with your own car. San Leucio is just over 40km from Naples, and just 6 kilometers from Caserta.
Anyone wishing to arrive by public transport will have to use the train to reach the Caserta railway station. From here, every day, the AirCampania bus line 04-UC leaves and reaches its destination in about 15 minutes.
The bus runs every day, from Caserta, from 05.45am (first ride) to 9.45pm (last ride). The frequency is 60′. Go down to Piazza della Seta and continue on foot for about 8 minutes.
TIMES AND TICKETS BELVEDERE OF SAN LEUCIO
The monumental complex is open all year round, from Monday to Saturday, in the morning from 09.30 to 13.30. On Sundays and holidays, in the morning, from 09.30 to 12.00
In the afternoon, from April to October, at 3.30pm and 5pm. From November to March, at 3pm and 4.30pm.
Always closed on Wednesday afternoons.
The adult ticket costs €9. Reduced rate (€6) from 6 to 18 years old.
On some days there are special rates of €4 for everyone.
WHAT TO SEE
The visit is divided into 3 sections.
In the ancient Silk Factory you can admire the old machinery and equipment used in silk processing. They have all been restored and are currently in working order.
Silk is also the protagonist in the Royal Apartments. Among the beautiful rooms, the marvelous Maria Carolina’s Toilet, the bedroom and the dining room stand out.
The royal gardens are beautiful and well-kept.
At the Weaver’s House, the environment of a typical worker of the time has been reconstructed, including the furniture from the past.
