In the city center you can easily move on foot. The main sites and places of interest are all concentrated within the historic center.
A valid solution for getting around San Gimignano and the surrounding areas is the scooter or even the bike. There is also a fairly efficient public transport service, active all year round.
GETTING AROUND SAN GIMIGNANO BY BUS
In the city, there are three urban lines that provide service to the historic center, called Citybus. The service is managed by the Autolinee Toscane company. Buses are an excellent solution for getting from the city to the historic center.
- SG1 line . THE MOVES – P.TA SAN GIOVANNI – SANTA LUCIA
- SG2 line. SANTA LUCIA – P1 GIUBILEO – P.TA SAN GIOVANNI
- SG3 line. P.TA SAN GIOVANNI – RANZA – CASTEL SAN GIMIGNANO
The line SGN is in operation every day, only from 9pm to 11.30pm. The buses are perfectly accessible for disabled people and people with reduced mobility, thanks to the special platform provided. Furthermore, these are ecological vehicles, Euro 6.
The ticket for a single bus ride costs €1.20 and lasts 70′ from validation. If purchased on board the vehicle it costs 2.50€. The carnet version of 10 tickets is also available at a cost of €11.
AUTO
Near the historic center there are three large parking areas with a total availability of over 700 spaces.
The car park P1 – Giubileo , south of Piazza Duomo, is the largest and cheapest of the three (305 spaces), with a cost of €1.50 per hour, up to a maximum of € 6.00 for the day. The P2 car parks ( Montemaggio), P3 (Bagnaia Superiore) and P4 (Bagnaia Inferiore) apply the rate of €2.50 for each hour of parking. Giubileo is located about one kilometer away from Piazza Duomo.
In all areas you will find the special machines to pay; they accept cash, debit cards and major credit cards.
Leave the car, continue on foot, to move around San Gimignano in complete tranquility.
BIKE AND SCOOTER
Not far from the San Gimignano car park, you will find an agency to book bikes, scooters and other vehicles. You can explore the beautiful surroundings and admire the landscapes, with all the charm of getting around San Gimignano on two wheels.
