Due to its shape, and the extraordinary variety of landscapes, in Switzerland the climate is quite varied depending on the area. The country is located almost at the center of Europe, crossed by the Alpine chain. It consists of three large regions, with as many climates: the Jura, the Altipiano and the Alps. The latter has a typically mountain climate. The higher you climb, the colder it is. On the other hand, here, the days are longer.
The large, and most important cities, are located in the area of the plateau and have a mostly continental climate. Winters are rather harsh and cold with temperatures close to zero. The summers, on the other hand, are rather hot, often characterized by afternoon thunderstorms.
Climate differences are more evident in the Jura region, north-west of the country. Here, the summers are hot and the winters extremely rigid, they even touch the -35°!
