To drive on Swiss motorways and expressways, you must purchase a special vignette, or Vignette Switzerland. This is a special prepaid sticker, mandatory for all vehicles up to 3.5 tons. This sticker must be purchased even for driving a short stretch of Swiss motorway.
The Vignette Switzerland has some unique features compared to many others. First, it is only available in an annual version. This translates into a huge expense, as it MUST BE PURCHASED even to simply cross Swiss territory.
It is no coincidence, therefore, that many people try to avoid crossing Swiss territory by opting for alternative solutions.

The Swiss Vignette is valid for 12 months of the calendar year + December of the previous year + January of the following year. It costs 40 Swiss francs (approximately €42) for all motor vehicles, including trailers and caravans, up to 3.5 tons. If a vehicle is towing a caravan, two vignettes must be purchased.
The vignette Switzerland is available in electronic format (e-Vignette) and as a sticker. The sticker must be affixed directly to the vehicle. On cars, it should be affixed to the windshield, on the left edge, or behind the rearview mirror. On trailers and two-wheelers, it should be affixed to non-removable and clearly visible parts.
The sticker can be purchased at the following points of sale:
IMPORTANT: Failure to display the Swiss vignette is considered a failure to purchase a sticker. If checked, you will be subject to a fine of CHF 200, in addition to the purchase of a vignette! Please note that checks are quite frequent throughout the network.
Always remember to display the Swiss vignette before entering a Swiss highway or motorway. It is your responsibility to ensure the vignette is correctly displayed on your vehicle.
THE vignette MUST BE ATTACHED WITHOUT THE USE OF SCOTTISH OR TAPE. It cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another.
The electronic vignette (e-Vignette) can be purchased directly from the official website through this link. Remember to check the “visible to the public” box. Be extremely careful when entering your license plate, as the Swiss vignette is NON-refundable. There is also no right of cancellation.
