El Caminito del Rey: what to do and see. How to arrive from Malaga

El Caminito del Rey

Do you love tranquility? Romantic walks, perhaps in the moonlight with the birds that chirp …. Change post, then! The route we propose is not for you.

It was the year 1921, when the king of Spain, Alfonso, inaugurated the dam of the Conde del Guadalhorce, crossing (albeit for a short distance) the path just built: from here was born, in fact, the legend of El Caminito del Rey.

This walkway was built a few years ago so that the workers could move between the two waterfalls in the area, the jump of the Jet and the jump of the Gaitanejo. A pedestrian walkway of about 3 km with wide ramps just 1 m, at over 100 meters in height!

Abandoned to itself, it remained in almost crumbling conditions, with numerous sections without balustrades or even collapsed. This danger, pushed almost to the extremes, helped to create around El Caminito del Rey, an aura of charm, mystery and adventure. Unfortunately, in 2000, following the death of 4 people, local authorities have decided to close their doors and the path has been officially closed!

DO NOT DISPUTE, though. The 28 March 2015, after an accurate reconstruction, El Caminito del Rey, has finally reopened to the public. Through the official website available from this link, you can book your adventure walk online.
