In the historic center you can easily move on foot. For medium-range destinations and to reach key points in the city, buses are the cheapest alternative.
Here are some info for getting around Visby.

MOVING ON FOOT

The historic center is enclosed within the ancient walls. Here, especially in summer, people travel exclusively on foot: in fact, cars are forbidden.
The city walls extend for just over 3 km. You can admire the main monuments, with the necessary breaks, walking through the streets of the historic center.

GETTING AROUND VISBY BY BIKE

One of the favorite ways to get around Visby, especially in summer. Many rental shops open during this period. Prices obviously rise, and they aren’t exactly cheap.
By bike you can easily go around the city and the surrounding areas, reaching any point through the numerous cycle paths.
Wisbycykelbod, is located at Färjeleden 2, a short distance from the port of Visby. It offers many solutions for all budgets, and all needs. The classic bike for women/men, costs 120kr for 24 hours. A bike of the “Racer” category, 150kr per day. For the kids, mountain bikes with 16 to 24-inch rims are available, and cost 90kr for 24h.
On the other hand, those wishing to opt for electric or pedal assisted bikes can choose between the various options, with prices at 300kr per 24h.

TAXI

Several agencies operate in Visby (Taxi Gotland, Taxi Kurik, Din Taxi…) with almost identical prices. Taxis aren’t exactly cheap. Generally, for a 10km trip, the daytime rate (between 09:00 and 16:00) is 320kr. In the other range, the rate is 356kr.
Taxis generally park at the airport, near the port, and at the main points of interest.
Always make sure in advance of the rate applied, and always remember to ask for a receipt.
All taxis are easily identifiable. The taximeter is clearly visible inside.

GETTING AROUND VISBY BY BUS

With the comfortable buses of the Gotland Region, you can easily move around the city, reaching the port, the airport and all the main destinations of the Gotland island.
The 6 urban lines connect Visby with the main points of interest and the surrounding areas. Expect extremely high frequencies, however, especially in winter, with buses running every two hours!

BUS TICKETS

For getting around Visby by bus, a valid travel ticket must be purchased in advance. The cost is 20SEK per adult, and 16SEK for children up to 19 years. The ticket is valid for 60 minutes after validation. During this time, you can also make a round trip, which must always be completed within one hour of validation.
The Pass is ideal for frequent travelers by bus. The 24-hour version costs 150SEK per adult, and 120SEK reduced, and allows unlimited travel on all urban and extra-urban buses, within 24 hours of the first validation. The 72-hour version costs 300kr per adult and 240kr reduced, with unlimited travel for 72 hours from the first validation

Children up to 7 years old travel free with a paying adult.
Small pets travel free with a paying adult.

A bicycle can be transported for a supplement of 20kr.
