Toledo. How to arrive by train, car or bus. Get in there from Madrid

Toledo

One place, three souls.
This is what one perceives when visiting this wonderful city, capital of the autonomous community Castile-La Manch a.
In its historic center, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO , Arab, Jewish and Christian medieval monuments coexist in a truly harmonious way.

Perched on a hill overlooking the central plains, Toledo offers a truly incredible glance. Fortresses. Convents. Alleys and Squares. Mosques… a truly magical city with incredible charm.

HOW TO GET TO TOLEDO

PLANE

Given the proximity to Madrid, Barajas International Airport is the base ideal for reaching Toledo.
The airport, well connected with the main European and non-European destinations, is located about 80 kilometers from the city.

To reach your destination by public transport, you will need to arrive at Madrid Puerta de Atocha station where trains leave for Toledo.
There are about 10 daily connections from Madrid. The ticket costs €13.90 per person and the journey takes just over 30′.

Alternatively, you could rent a car directly at the airport. In our opinion, this solution is not particularly recommended in the case of a short visit. In fact, in the city, you will only have to go around on foot.

Toledo

TRAIN

The building that houses the Central Railway Station is the work of the architect Narciso Clavería y de Palacios. For its particular cultural interest, it has been declared a National Monument.
Since 2005, the high-speed line connecting the city with Madrid Puerta de Atocha has been inaugurated. This is the only rail link currently active.

BUS

Coming from foreign destinations, there are no direct connections by road. By bus, you can reach Toledo from Madrid, with the means operated by Alsa. Recommended solution for those wishing to save on costs. The ticket, in fact, costs €6.23 per person, compared to €13.90 for the train.
ALSA’s vehicles, among other things, are quite modern and efficient. The direct journey, from Madrid-Plaza Eliptica, takes about 50 minutes.

CAR

Spain has a particularly extensive and efficient road and motorway network. The city itself is crossed by the A42, also known as the Autovia de Toledo, which connects the city to the capital in about 45′.
From Seville, to the south, you have to travel about 470 kilometers, most of them on the A4 motorway.
Coming from Portugal, the distances increase slightly: about 570 kilometers from Porto or Lisbon.
From Barcelona, you have to allow for over 6 hours to cross the almost 700 km that separate the two cities. The more than 1000 kilometers away from France, on the other hand, make a direct car trip impractical.
