Lyon Festival of Lights
SHOPPING | CONTACT | NEWS | SUBSCRIBE ENG ITA ESP ENG ITA ESP Lyon Festival of Lights 2024, 05-08 December. Program, timetable Lyon Festival of Lights 2024 WHERE: Lyon, FranceWHEN: from 05th to 08th December 2024 The Fête Des Lumiéres, is the ceremony par excellence of Lyon and probably one of the most important in France. It is no coincidence that, every year, it welcomes more than 4 millions of visitors. Tourists, curious, or simple enthusiasts can discover a truly magical city. Because the beauties of this city go far beyond the only one Lyon Festival of Lights. The metropolis, second largest in France only in Paris and Marseilles, has very little to envy to the same Ville Lumiére. A truly unique and beautiful city, which the Fête manages to exalt in a truly magical atmosphere. For 4 days, Lyon becomes a sort of open-air museum. The Lyon Festival of Lights is an event that dates back to 8 1852 December. That year a great ceremony was organized, complete with a band and fireworks, to inaugurate the new statue in honor of the Virgin Mary, protector of the city since 1643. Due to a violent storm the ceremony was canceled. The Lyons, however, did not let themselves be beaten down. So, they all decided to light the lights in front of their homes, as a sign of devotion. Imagine the spectacle of the city … by candlelight. In the late afternoon they went down the streets of Lyon, singing and dancing to the cry of “Vive Marie”. Today, candles have been replaced by fantastic and modern plays of light. An incredible lighting system. A truly unique and wonderful visual show. Four thematic routes and a total of 36 installations will transform Lyon into a truly glittering city. You will be spoiled for choice. LYON FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS TIMETABLE The light installations of the Festival of Lights Lyon are all really beautiful and suggestive. In total, for the 2024 edition, there will be 32 new works, hosted practically everywhere. The installations are visible from Thursday 05 to Saturday 07 December, from 19:00 to 23:00 and Sunday from 18:00 to 22:00. Please note that some works will observe specific hours. Photo, 2008 Gonedelyon THE WORKS On the splendid Fourvière hill, La Région des Lumières à Fourvière is a wonderful creation with 3D animations. Lights, colors and music will transform the hill into a poetic sky. Mother, it is the show, poetic and fascinating, that will illuminate one of the symbolic places of the city: the Saint-Jean Cathedral. For the more romantic, in the suggestive setting of Place de la Republique, there will once again be Lumignons du Coeur. You will experience charm and magic, among beautiful works in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The Sun King in the glass dome has now become the symbol of Lyon and Place Bellencour. A show of colors in shades of cyan and magenta will illuminate this symbolic space of the city. WHERE TO SLEEP Given the size of the city, choosing accommodation could be quite difficult. The offer is really vast. Consider also that during the period of the Lyon Festival of Lights, prices tend to increase even beyond 20%. Keep in mind that we are still in the Christmas period. The area, undoubtedly, most fascinating is that of the district of Vieux-Lyon. A truly old-fashioned atmosphere, between Renaissance buildings and splendid squares; Place des Terraux, with its numerous monuments, is its emblem. Prices obviously rise; however, here you will be at the center of everything, well served, and full of bars for your nightlife. Take a look at this link to search for your ideal accommodation. The top of Kanoa. Lyon, in any case, is served by an efficient integrated transport system. In this way, you will be able to run smoothly around the city. Timetable, tickets, how to arrive to Auschwitz Auschwitz Birkenau “Visitor, observe the vestiges of this field and meditate: from whatever country you come, you are not a stranger. Let your journey have not been useless, that our death has not been useless. For you and for your children, the ashes of Oswiecim are worthy of warning: make the horrible fruit of hatred, of which he has seen traces here, do not give new seed, nor tomorrow, nor ever “. This is the warning of Primo Levi, so that no one can ever forget; so that what has happened will never be repeated. From the 1942 the concentration camp of Auschwitz Birkenau became the biggest center of the extermination of the Jews. The hallucinating symbol of one of the most terrible, and immense, genocidal in the history of humanity. About 1,5 million prisoners from all over Europe have lost their lives in this place. The State Museum of Oświęcim (Auschwitz) was founded in June 1947, and in the 1979 it was inscribed on the UNESCO list as a monument to the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Getting to this area, about 70 km from Krakow, is not a trip. Quite the contrary. Visiting Auschwitz Birkenau is a blow to the heart; a punch in the stomach. We do not expect a visit but an experience that remains etched, indelible, in memory. PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO ARRIVE TO AUSCHWITZ The museum is located at Oswiecim, at 70 kilometers from Krakow.
