SHOPPING  |  CONTACT  |  NEWS  |  SUBSCRIBE ENG   ITA   ESP ENG   ITA   ESP Loi Krathong 2025, 05 – 06 November. Thailand Lantern festival Loi Krathong 2025 WHERE: Sukhotai and Chiang Mai, ThailandWHEN: 05th and 06th November 2025 Every year, on the full moon night of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar, Thailand celebrates one of the most awaited and exciting ceremonies: the Loi Krathong. The celebrations, in reality, occur throughout the week. You enter the living on 05th day. A very rich and unique ceremony, with truly wonderful performances. Chiang Mai and Sukhotai, in Thailand, are the best known places; the ceremony, however, also takes place in Burma, Laos and Cambodia. The latter, therefore, can be a valid alternative to the most famous Thai cities. The Loi Krathong, celebrated throughout Thailand, is a ceremony in which water is the predominant element. Its original name means “Floating Basket”. The Krathong, in fact, are baskets made mostly with flowers and banana leaves. Often, there are some facts of other material, such as bread; it is always and in any case of biodegradable substances. The baskets, in fact, containing candles, incense, and even food or coins, are floated on the water. Photo ©, Klim Levene The party begins in the evening, when everyone congregates on the banks of the river with their own Krathong. In an almost surreal silence, everyone turns on their candle in the basket, letting it float along the river. Everything lights up. A real sign of devotion towards the Buddha. Leaving the basket to float, one wants to symbolize the abandonment of misfortune and negativity. As well as driving away and driving away bad luck by floating the Krathong, respect and gratitude is shown to the Water Goddess “Phra Makhongkha”. The Loi Krathong ceremony then continues with songs, dances, fireworks and … large banquets. You can eat at really low prices. Although it has become a mass party, the Thailand Lantern Festival has managed to maintain its suggestive charm. The best locations in Thailand are, first of all, the historical park of Sukhotai, north of the city. The splendid place has been declared world heritage by UNESCO. No less interesting, and loads of suggestion, are the events of Chiang Mai and other Thai cities. PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO GET It is possible to reach Sukhotai, by plane doing a couple of stopovers and landing in Bangkok. From the Thai capital, you reach the city in just over an hour’s flight. From the airport, you can reach via a shuttle bus, both the old city and the new city of Sukhotai. Chiang Mai can be reached by air, via Hong Kong or Bangkok. From the airport, you can reach the center by bus or by taxi. We recommend the latter, for the prices certainly not exorbitant. Those who have previously stopped in Chiang Mai can think of reaching Sukhotai by bus. The journey takes from 5 to 6 hours. Buses leave from the Arcade Bus Terminal. The ticket can be purchased directly at the terminal and costs around €7. CURIOSITY ABOUT LOI KRATHONG The event takes place at the same time as another international event, also in Thailand: Yi Peng. The lanterns are the common element. The difference is that during Yi Peng, lanterns are raised into the sky, and are not allowed to drift into the water. WHERE TO SLEEP As always, there is no ideal structure. Choosing to stay in the new city rather than in the old one, is a matter of meringuemente subjective. From this link, the best facilities available at the best price. Lyon Festival of Lights

December,  Events,  France

SHOPPING  |  CONTACT  |  NEWS  |  SUBSCRIBE ENG   ITA   ESP ENG   ITA   ESP Lyon Festival of Lights 2024, 05-08 December. Program, timetable Lyon Festival of Lights 2024 WHERE: Lyon, FranceWHEN: from 05th to 08th December 2024 The Fête Des Lumiéres, is the ceremony par excellence of Lyon and probably one of the most important in France. It is no coincidence that, every year, it welcomes more than 4 millions of visitors. Tourists, curious, or simple enthusiasts can discover a truly magical city. Because the beauties of this city go far beyond the only one Lyon Festival of Lights. The metropolis, second largest in France only in Paris and Marseilles, has very little to envy to the same Ville Lumiére. A truly unique and beautiful city, which the Fête manages to exalt in a truly magical atmosphere. For 4 days, Lyon becomes a sort of open-air museum. The Lyon Festival of Lights is an event that dates back to 8 1852 December. That year a great ceremony was organized, complete with a band and fireworks, to inaugurate the new statue in honor of the Virgin Mary, protector of the city since 1643. Due to a violent storm the ceremony was canceled. The Lyons, however, did not let themselves be beaten down. So, they all decided to light the lights in front of their homes, as a sign of devotion. Imagine the spectacle of the city … by candlelight. In the late afternoon they went down the streets of Lyon, singing and dancing to the cry of “Vive Marie”. Today, candles have been replaced by fantastic and modern plays of light. An incredible lighting system. A truly unique and wonderful visual show. Four thematic routes and a total of 36 installations will transform Lyon into a truly glittering city. You will be spoiled for choice. LYON FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS TIMETABLE The light installations of the Festival of Lights Lyon are all really beautiful and suggestive. In total, for the 2024 edition, there will be 32 new works, hosted practically everywhere. The installations are visible from Thursday 05 to Saturday 07 December, from 19:00 to 23:00 and Sunday from 18:00 to 22:00. Please note that some works will observe specific hours. Photo, 2008 Gonedelyon THE WORKS On the splendid Fourvière hill, La Région des Lumières à Fourvière is a wonderful creation with 3D animations. Lights, colors and music will transform the hill into a poetic sky. Mother, it is the show, poetic and fascinating, that will illuminate one of the symbolic places of the city: the Saint-Jean Cathedral. For the more romantic, in the suggestive setting of Place de la Republique, there will once again be Lumignons du Coeur. You will experience charm and magic, among beautiful works in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The Sun King in the glass dome has now become the symbol of Lyon and Place Bellencour. A show of colors in shades of cyan and magenta will illuminate this symbolic space of the city. WHERE TO SLEEP Given the size of the city, choosing accommodation could be quite difficult. The offer is really vast. Consider also that during the period of the Lyon Festival of Lights, prices tend to increase even beyond 20%. Keep in mind that we are still in the Christmas period. The area, undoubtedly, most fascinating is that of the district of Vieux-Lyon. A truly old-fashioned atmosphere, between Renaissance buildings and splendid squares; Place des Terraux, with its numerous monuments, is its emblem. Prices obviously rise; however, here you will be at the center of everything, well served, and full of bars for your nightlife. Take a look at this link to search for your ideal accommodation. The top of Kanoa. Lyon, in any case, is served by an efficient integrated transport system. If the prices for the more central areas such as Vieux-Lyon, Croix-Rousse or Presqu’île are too expensive, you will find accommodation near the metro station. In this way, you will be able to run smoothly around the city.
