Verbuňk is in your blood! The dancer must know how to dance and live. What makes this dance unique, however, is the fact that it is pure improvisation. No choreography. No preparation. Verbuňk is only inspiration and everything is left to the dancer. Dancing is an integral part of many Slovacko parties. Anyone wishing to witness this fantastic Czech dance can do so during the traditional Straznice Folk Festival.What better occasion? The Festival takes place, since 1946, in the city of the Czech Republic, every last weekend of June. Everything is focused on folklore. And, in this land, there is an abundance of dances, songs, dances. You can attend fantastic shows, in the amphitheaters and on the stage of the Castle of the Village Museum. The nearby Brno airport, given the scarcity of connections, is an impractical solution. The best way, given the position on the border of the country, is to reach the international airports of Bratislava and Vienna, not far from the city. As soon as you land, you can rent a car and reach your destination comfortably. The Slovak capital is just over an hour away by car. Vienna, on the other hand, takes about 90 minutes. Some people also know it under the name of Baby Jumping Festival. A name that says it all! El Colacho, in reality, is none other than the Devil, represented here by a character in yellow and red clothes with a mask. Probably, the origin of the tradition is to guarantee children protection against disease and evil spirits and to offer a safe passage to life. The Catholic Church, especially in recent years, has distanced itself from the ceremony, emphasizing that only baptism can purify the soul from original sin.
