Guide and infos Beltane Fire Festival 2026 WHERE: Edinburgh, ScotlandWHEN: 30th April 2026 The Beltane Fire Festival is a traditional event held annually in Calton Hill, in the Scottish town. The popular event is a modern revival of an ancient festival of Scottish and Irish Gaelic origin, held on April 30th to celebrate the arrival of summer. The ceremony takes place in the evening. During the celebrations it will be possible to see the undressed Celts raising luminous torches, in order to increase the fertility of the soil for humans and the animals that reside there.Fire is the predominant element; the fire of local wood, food and flowers and the flames which, raised in the sky, have healing powers. In ancient times, even animals were brought into the flames! The ceremony, as mentioned, takes place in Calton Hill, a hill located in the center of Edinburgh. Here, there are numerous architectural elements of historical and tourist interest which have earned it the mention of a “site of scientific interest” by the Scottish Natural Heritage. Today, the fesiival is experiencing more and more success. Beltane Fire Society is a community of artists, founded in 1988, which organizes the event. PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO GET The plane is, without a doubt, the quickest and most comfortable way to reach the city. Edinburgh Airport is only 9 kilometers from the city center, and is Scotland’s largest airport for passenger traffic. Numerous daily flights connect the city with London. The Airlink 100 shuttle bus connects the airport to Waverley Bridge (near Princes Street and the main train and bus stations. The festival takes place in Calton Hill, not far from the center, and easily accessible on foot. By public transport, you can use lines 7, 8, 14, 22, 25, getting off at the Leith Street stop: in a few minutes you will arrive at your destination. THE CEREMONY OF THE BELTANE FIRE FESTIVAL The starting point is the National Monument of Scotland, also known as ACROPOLIS. From here, the procession proceeds counterclockwise along the route, to the rhythm of the drum. At the head, the May Queen and the Green Man, followed, then, by a host of characters linked to them. After a dramatic performance, the two characters set off the spark from which the fire blazes. Then…. dances, songs, and dances will accompany you throughout the night. TIMETABLES AND PRICES 2026 Tickets to attend the Beltane Fire Festival Edinburgh are available from mid-February. Tickets can be purchased, in presale until April 29th, at the special price of 14£. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased directly on site, costing 20£ for adults. In this case, the main ticket office is located in Castle Hill, Edinburgh. Children up to the age of 16 pay the reduced rate of 8£. Children under the age of 2 enter for free. Prices include taxes and fees. Characters, parade, what to do and see Tarragona Diables 2026 WHERE: Tarragona, SpainWHEN: 07 – 11 February, 21st June, 23rd September 2026 Tarragona Diables, also known as the Dance of the Devils, is one of the most interesting and spectacular folkloristic representations in all of Spain. And, in this sense, it represents one of the greatest expressions of the local tradition. An ancient festival, whose origins date back as far as the fifteenth century, revisited in the 1984 through an annual cycle of three specific dates. Each, linked to particular historical phases, from the Carnival to Santa Tecla.The carnival is inspired by the satirical element, through dances and popular representations. A large procession with floats, trumpets and drums, which paves the way for the Diables of Tarragona, dance and popular performances. The second phase of the cycle is represented by the celebrations of San Juan, on the occasion of the summer solstice, this year the 21st June 2026 at 10:24. The actual celebrations of the Noche de San Juan, however, take place at the turn of the 23 and the 24 June. The cycle of Tarragona Diables, the celebrations of Santa Tecla, in September, close. For many, this is the most authentic party, when most tourists have left the coast, and there are almost all residents in the city. Santa Tecla, moreover, is the moment that marks the end of summer. SAN JUAN It is the shortest night of the year, with devils and beasts taking the city. The summer solstice is a magical night of invocations to spirits and omens.The festivities begin at the 18:00, with activities for children at Plaça dels Àngels, while, at 19:30 the fire begins to be the protagonist in El Serrallo with the neighborhood bonfire, and Ninot Cream.At the 23:00, from Plaça de les Cols, the Cercavila de Foc begins, with the Diables of Tarragona, the Devils of the Pla de Santa Maria, and the Ferafoc de Sant Quintí de Mediona.From 23:45, in Plaça dels Àngels, we dance and dance with the party organized by the Xiquets of Tarragona. The conspiracy would have passed into history as “the conspiracy of powders”. Guy Fawkes Night, draws its inspiration from this event, and from the main protagonist of the conspiracy. Every night of November 5, all of England celebrates what is also called Bonfire Night, or, Night of the Bonfires. An incredible ceremony, in which bonfires and pyrotechnic fireworks are the absolute protagonists, illuminating the skies of the country until late at night. In the town of Lewes, close Brighton, perhaps the most particular and incredible ceremony takes place. Ceremony which, among other things, is inspired by another historical event. In 1555, in fact, 17 Protestant martyrs were put to the stake in the main square of the town. In remembrance of that circumstance, incredible bonfires are organized in which effigies of prime ministers, presidents or terrorists are burned.
