Delos, little far from the famous island of Mykonos, is a sort of island / museum. Legend has it that, just on this small island of only 3 square kilometers, the God Apollo and his twin sister Artemis were born. Today, Delos, contains an impressive series of monuments of extraordinary value and value. The excavations began in the distant 1872 thanks to the intervention of the French Archaeological School. Even today, work is in progress to bring to light the numerous finds on the island. From the 1990, Delo has been included in the world heritage of humanity by UNESCO. From here, crossing the splendid houses of Dionysus, Cleopatra and the Trident, you get to the ancient theater, from which you can enjoy a truly spectacular view. Beautiful mosaics await you in the house of the Masks and in the house of the Dolphins. The climb to the summit of Mount Kynthos offers glimpses and views really beautiful and evocative, with the splendid landscape on the islands of Naxos and Siros in the North, Tixos in the South and Mykonos in the East. The lions, however, are only copies. The originals are kept inside the Museum to avoid ruining them in bad weather. PRACTICAL INFO The Cyclades archipelago is notoriously the destination of a holiday of sea and fun. The nearby Mykonos, in this sense, represents the real emblem. A trip to Delos is the best way to spend an alternative half-day. It is recommended to bring water and dress appropriately. A hat is ideal for sheltering from the scorching sun. It is always preferable to arrive early in the morning with the first available boat, or in the late afternoon. TICKETS AND OPENING HOUR From 01 April to 31 August, site and museum open every day from Monday to Sunday, from 08:00 to 20:00. In September, the archaeological site is open every day from 08:00 to 20:00, while the Museum observes the following times: Tuesday to Friday, and Sunday, from 08:00 to 19:00. Saturday and Monday, from 08:00 to 15:00. The full ticket costs 12,00€. Students, teachers and over 65, pay the reduced fee of 6,00€. Free for children under the age of 18.
