Malta International Airport, also known as Luqa due to its proximity to the town of the same name, is the only airport on the island of Malta. It is located at 5 kilometers southwest of the Capital, and is the hub of the Air Malta flag carrier.
Inside the Terminal there are numerous shopping, duty-free areas, bars and restaurants. The airport is well connected, with direct flights, to the main European destinations.

LUQA AIRPORT CONNECTIONS – ISLAND
By car, taxi and bus, you can reach the main points of interest on the island.
Every day, four Express lines are active, identified as X1, X2, X3 and X4. Luqa Airport is the terminal of three of the four lines. Here, below, the detail:
- X1, Hal Luqa (airport) – Cirkewwa, from 05:20 to 22:55.
- X2, Hal Luqa (airport) – San Giljan, from 06:00 to 23:00, with one hour frequency.
- X3, Hal Luqa – Bugibba, from 05:30 to 22:30 with one hour frequency.
- X4, Valletta – Birzebuggia, from 05:25 to 22:35. The bus, from the Capital, takes 17 minutes to reach the Malta airport.
Then there are other road lines that make connections with the airport.
Tickets cost 2.00€, if purchased between mid-June and mid-October. During other periods, however, tickets cost 1.50€ per person.
Tickets can be purchased directly on board the vehicle. There are no reduced tickets. Only children under the age of 4 are traveling free.
Some routes leave Luqa airport early in the morning, making it impossible to move around by bus.
In this case, it is advisable to arrange for transport by taxi. You can opt for official Transport Malta taxis, and for other operators. You can ask directly to your structure.
