Lisbon Elevador Ascensores. The 4 historic means of transport in the city

Lisbon Elevador Ascensores

In Lisbon, the means of transport, especially the historical ones, are considered a real institution. Not an easy way to get around town.
Lisbon Elevador Ascensores are not an exception, so much so that they have been awarded the recognition of the country’s “national monument”.

The means often generate a bit of confusion, but, even though they belong to the same “family”, they differ in type. The ascensores, in fact, are vehicles that travel on rails, pulled by a rope: a category of funiculars, more or less steep. The Elevador, on the other hand, are vertical lifts, one of a kind.
All lifts connect the lower part of the city with the hills of Lisbon.

Of the 9 historic plants, 4 still remain in operation today. Today they are real monuments much loved by visitors
Here, below, the detail.
