Lisbon. How to arrive from main destinations by car, train, plane

Lisbon

“For me, there are no flowers that can compare with the variety of colors that Lisbon takes on in the sunlight.” [Fernando Pessoa]

The Portuguese capital is a splendid city, an ideal destination for your holidays. A truly unique place, which transmits emotions at first glance. Melancholic and suggestive, in a succession of colors; from the sea to the houses, from the people to the azulejos (small smooth and polished stone).

Lisbon is the wind that comes from the ocean; the Trams that whiz through the tree-lined avenues; the Lisboètas strolling through the old quarters, illuminated by lanterns, chatting over a glass of wine. Lisbon is the cobbled alleys and its squares, with the cafes under the golden sun; churches with white domes… a city rich in history, jealous of its origins and traditions.

Lisbon will be able to enter your hearts more than you can imagine.

HOW TO GET TO LISBON

AIRPLANE

Given the location, the best way to reach the beautiful Lusitanian city is, undoubtedly, by plane. Humberto Delgado is the commercial name of Lisbon’s international airport, located just 7 kilometers from the city. It is the most important airport in Portugal, as well as one of the strategic airports in the context of connections with Brazil and, above all, Africa.

You can arrive by direct flight from the main European destinations.

The metro allows you to get to the center in less than 20 minutes. The station is located in the southern corner of the arrivals area of Terminal 1. The airport is the terminus of Linha Vermelha (Linha do Oriente), which goes as far as S. Sebastião. The line is in operation, every day, from 06:30 to 01:00 at night; the frequency ranges from 6 to 10 minutes approximately. To use the metro, just buy the electronic card called 7 Colinas / Viva Viagem, at a cost of only €0.50. With it, you can take advantage of city vehicles, with the credit loaded. The single trip, from the airport, costs €1.50.

TRAIN

Lisboa Rossio was once the Central Railway Station. Today, however, it is a marvelous neo-Manueline style building, with a characteristic entrance; it is one of the stops along the line to Sintra, as well as a popular metro station (Green Line).

The main hub of the city is Estacao do Oriente, located about 5 km from the center, in an area affected by an incredible redevelopment for Expo 98. From here, numerous regional and national connections are guaranteed on a daily basis. Coimbra can be reached in about 100 ‘by fast train and 115’ by IC train. For Oporto, however, it takes two and a half hours by fast train. Faro is about 3 hours away by Intercity train. From Madrid, you can reach the Lusitanian city with a direct overnight journey.

CAR

Reaching Lisbon by car from Portugal is quite simple, thanks to the distances far from prohibitive. The excellent E1 connects Porto in about 313 km and Braga, shortly after, in a total of 363 km; Valença, to the north, on the border with Spain, is 493 km away. Also in Spain, the distance from Madrid is approximately 630 kilometers, passing through Badajoz, on the border, and Merida. Seville, on the other hand, is just over 450 kilometers away. With the necessary breaks, all distances can be covered throughout the day.
