Lisbon airport. How to arrive by direct plane. Center connections

Lisbon airport

Humberto Delgado is the commercial name of the Lisbon airport, which is just 7 kilometers away. It is the most important airport in Portugal, as well as one of the strategic airports in the context of connections with Brazil and, above all, Africa.

Hub of the Lusitanian TAP Portugal, since 2015 it has been named in memory of the well-known general and politician, as well as a great opponent of the dictatorial regime. The airport has two terminals. T1 is the main building; here you will find most of the airport’s services, including many dining options, shopping and duty-free. The smaller T2, on the other hand, is almost the exclusive prerogative of Low Cost companies.

Humberto Delgado is a child-friendly airport with many areas and services dedicated to them. There are toilets and changing areas near the T1 and T2 toilets. Free strollers are available to travelers upon request. After passing the Security areas at T1, you will find Family Rooms (where you can heat baby bottles, prepare meals…) and Playgrounds for children up to 7 years old.

The WI-FI line is available FREE, with unlimited time access, throughout the complex. Simply connect, through your device, to the “_VINCI Airports WiFi” network, and follow the instructions on the screen.

LISBON AIRPORT – CENTER CONNECTIONS

Lisbon metro

Lisbon airport is perfectly connected with the city. Between buses and rail lines, you will really be spoiled for choice.

METRO

An absolutely simple, comfortable, and inexpensive way to get to Lisbon in less than 20 minutes. The station is located in the southern corner of the arrivals area of Terminal 1. The airport is the terminus of Linha Vermelha (Linha do Oriente), which goes as far as S. Sebastião. The line is in operation, every day, from 06:30 to 01:00 at night; the frequency ranges from 6 to 10 minutes approximately.

To use the metro, just buy the electronic card called Viva Viagem, at a cost of only €0.50. With it, you can take advantage of city vehicles, with the credit loaded. The single trip, from the airport, costs €1.50.

AEROBUS

Particularly interesting connection, to reach the center and the nerve centers of Lisbon. The Aerobus stops at both terminals and at the main hotels in the city. The buses are extremely modern, comfortable and equipped with all comforts, such as air conditioning, USB sockets at each station and Wi-FI. Furthermore, the buses are perfectly accessible for the handicapped.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2021: the service does not work. On the official website there is no further information regarding a possible recovery.

BUS

Outside the Arrivals terminal, you will find the bus station. There are several urban lines that allow you to reach many areas of Lisbon, including the outlying areas. BE VERY CAREFUL: if you have luggage with dimensions exceeding 50x40x20cm, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE BUSES.

The fare and type of tickets are the same as for the metro. Also for the bus, therefore, you will have to buy the electronic card called Viva Viagem, at a cost of only €0.50. The ticket for the single journey costs €1.45. Those who wish can buy the paper ticket directly on board the bus, at a cost of €1.80.

TAXI

Outside both terminals you will find the taxi rank. The vehicles are easily identifiable, and have a clearly visible sign and taximeter. A trip from Lisbon Airport to the center by taxi costs around € 15. However, inquire about the rate in advance.

LISBON AIRPORT – PORTUGAL CONNECTIONS

Lisboa Oriente Train Station

Estacao do Oriente, is the most important railway hub in Lisbon, about 3 km from the metro stop. You can get to the train station with city buses 208 and 744 (watch out for luggage) or with the Linha Vermelha metro (fourth stop from the airport). Sports enthusiasts could try to walk for about 30 minutes.

From Lisbon Oriente, numerous regional and national connections are guaranteed. Sintra can be reached in just 45′ by direct route; it takes about 70 minutes to get to Estoril. Coimbra can be reached in about 100′ by fast train and 115′ by IC train. For Oporto, however, it takes two and a half hours by fast train. Faro is about 3 hours away by Intercity train.

*The list is subject to change. All links, updated, can be consulted on the official website. Before leaving, it is recommended to inquire about the provisions and rules on COVID-19 in Portugal, and on the mandatory nature of the Green Pass. Timetables and connections are subject to change.
