The name should not be misleading. Durkheimer Wurstmarkt literally means the Salsicce market. In this case, however, wine is the protagonist. And in fact, it is the largest wine festival in the world.
Or, at least, it is the slogan of the organizers.

The numbers are all on the side of the Durkheimer Festival, one of the most anticipated events of all the Palatinate which, every year, makes almost 700.000 visitors recorder. No wonder wine lovers from all over the world come to Bad Dürkheim to taste the approximately 300 wine selections on offer.

It is also a festival of great tradition that will take place almost 600 years in these fantastic lands, the second and third weekend of September.
Tradition and above all, great quality. In fact, all the wines must overcome an incredibly selective process, to guarantee uniqueness and great quality. Each label must obtain a specific certificate and authorization; moreover, it must come exclusively from the area of Bad Durkheim. The selection varies from reds, to sparkling white wines and sparkling wines.

HOW TO GET

The best way to reach the German town is through Frankfurt / Main or, alternatively, Stuttgart. Frankfurt International Airport is about 100 kilometers from Bad Durkheim and is well connected to major European and non-European destinations.
To arrive by train, you must make 2 changes; first in Mannheim and, later, in Neustadt.
The 97 kilometers by car are much more convenient. The route crosses, to a large extent, the A67 highway. The advice is to rent a car directly at the airport.

WHAT TO DO AND SEE

LITERARISCHER FRÜHSCHOPPEN: one of the cult events of the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt. On Sundays all the fans of the Palatinate dialect get together.
JULES VERNE TOWER. It is a fantastic tower, about 80 meters high. An elevator will take you to the top, at the speed of 2 meters per second. Crazy sight on all the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt and the city.
WILDE MAUS XXL: the fantastic roller coasters, supported by virtual reality. Guaranteed fun.

The Schubkarchstände are the real heart of the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt. Between barrels and wooden carts, you can enjoy the best wine and sausages. In total there are 36 Schubkarchstände, all built according to traditional styles. You can choose from 300 wines and sparkling wines.
