Here, despite the low temperatures, you will be greeted by a warm atmosphere that fills the main square of the city and the riverside.
Sparkling lights and the scent of mulled wine, sweets and biscuits invade the streets of the historic center.
It is difficult to resist the temptation to savor the various delicacies displayed on the stalls. On the other hand, the capital is considered the home of gourmet street food.
Christmas in Ljubljana is truly evocative, colorful and welcoming.
It is an event for the whole family, and, above all, for the little ones who will be literally carried away by the magic of Advent.
Between fairy tales in a kingdom of ice, majestic sparkling trees and picturesque log cabins, fun is guaranteed.

CHRISTMAS IN LJUBLJANA 2025: THE MARKETS
PREŠEREN SQUARE
Prešeren Square is the heart of Ljubljana, a real crossroads where the main streets and places of the capital converge.
The monument to France Prešeren dominates the square and dresses up for Christmas.
The beautiful Franciscan Church overlooks the square while, on the opposite side, there is the triple bridge, one of the symbols of the city. Here, just during Advent, a river of people pours into the square, where the large Christmas tree stands.
The stalls offer all kinds of souvenirs: from fashion accessories, headdresses, scarves and gloves to culinary delights such as desserts, honey and locally made spirits.
On Friday, November 28, the official inauguration of Christmas in Ljubljana 2025 will take place with the switching on of the Christmas lights at 5:00 pm sharp in Prešeren Square.
The Prešeren Market is open every day, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 22:00. The weekend, from 10:00 to 23:00.
OTHER CHRISTMAS MARKETS
Christmas in Ljubljana is not limited to just Prešeren Square.
You can admire beautiful decorations, buy souvenirs and enjoy many delicacies in other areas of the city, such as Breg, Cankarjevo or Gallusovo in Petkovškovo nabrežje. The charming Castle also dresses up for Christmas, with many events and activities for all tastes. Don’t miss the Nativity scenes.
EVENTS NOT TO BE MISSED 2025
Kongresni trg is home to the Land of Ice, with tales and fairytales in a magical land of crystalline ice and snow, created by Slovenian and international artists. In front of the Town Hall, a veritable dragon city awaits with fairytale ice sculptures. A guaranteed spectacle for the whole family!
From December 15th to 17th, 2025, the enchanting Christmas concert by the Primary School Choir will take place in Mestni Trg. The concert will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
CHRISTMAS FOR THE CHILDREN
Lights and colors light up children’s Christmas.
For the little ones, the meeting with the three Christmas characters is certainly the most awaited moment.
Santa Claus makes his appearance on the streets of the center.
Then there is Dedek Mraz who takes a carriage ride through the streets of the center.
And of course Miklavz (Saint Nicholas) ready to take his classic ride to the top of the Castle.
