Many stands enrich the streets of the canals and squares of the city, offering enchanting corners and truly unique and evocative views. It will seem to be in a fairy tale. And, icing on the cake, the wonderful Light Festival, a real event in the event, to be admired on foot, by boat or by bike.
Do not miss, ithe big Christmas tree in Dam Square and the “Turn on the Lights” of the famous Bijenkorf department store. You will witness a cheerful and scintillating show.

CHRISTMAS VILLAGE ON ICE
Christmas in Amsterdam is extraordinary fun and entertainment for young and old. The Christmas Village on Ice is, without a doubt, the Lugo par excellence of Christmas in Amsterdam, with its immense ice rink and the numerous stands set up in the great Piazza dei Musei. A sort of Balocchi village, in the most fascinating area of Amsterdam, among sumptuous buildings, and renowned museums.
Ledesplein and Museumplein are the ideal place to spend your holidays in the Capital. You can wander through the cozy, perfectly lit and festively decorated chalets. You will find many decorations, souvenirs, gifts and, of course, delicious gastronomic offers. Guests can also enjoy live shows.
In the place where the famous writing “I AMSTERDAM” is placed, there is a large skating rink, the real star of Christmas in Amsterdam. The skating rink is centered around Museumplein. It runs from 12 November 2022 to 05 February 2023. The price is €12.50 for two hours, including the rental of saucers.
Ice Village is open for 2 weeks, from Thursday 14 to Monday 26 December 2022, from 11:00 to 20:00. On December 25, it closes at 5pm.
ALBERT CUYPMARKT
A city market open all year, which, just for Advent, changes style with a very impressive effect. Among the over 200 stalls set up in the square, you will be able to buy decorations, gifts, artifacts, jewelry, clothes and much more. Do not miss the local gastronomic specialties, including the delicious poffertjes, or pancakes prepared at the time and sprinkled with chocolate.
In addition to the typical markets, Albert Cuypmarkt will take part in Christmas events and workshops. The market is open all year round, from Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 17:00. Closed on Sunday, December 25th and 26th.
BLOENMARKT
The famous flower market is one of the most popular tourist attractions throughout the year. Try to make a jump during the Advent period to realize the beauty and charm of this place. This is the floating flower market, the largest in Europe, open every day, including holidays, from 09:00 to 17:30.
The Flowers, of course, are the real protagonists. Here, you can find fantastic compositions, for truly unique gifts. There are, obviously, decorations and souvenirs. Our advice, however, is to take a leap to appreciate it floral variety, colors and perfumes! Those looking for gifts and souvenirs, just a few steps from Bloenmarkt, will be able to satisfy their desire for shopping at Christmas Palace shop.
FUNKY XMAS MARKET
In the beautiful location of Westerpark, one of the best parks in the city, you can attend a truly alternative market. A place that encloses design, art, fashion and everything that can be creative. Not the usual Christmas market. Just think that the Funky Xmas Market takes place on a single date, Sunday 18 December, from 12:00 to 18:00. The days before the advent, here is the Neighbourfood Market, a beautiful market dedicated to zero-km food. You can buy, and taste, the best typical products of Dutch cuisine.
PURE WINTER MARKET
Only two dates, for as many different locations: Amstel e Park Frankendael. This is a rather particular market, which offers organic specialties and eco-sustainable manufacturing. In a rather relaxing atmosphere, you can spend a few hours shopping and savoring organic specialties. You can attend activities and explanations offered by the artisans present on the spot.
The Pure Winter Market takes place every year on the two Sundays preceding Christmas. For the 2022, appointment the 11 December, in Amstelpark, from 11:00 to 17:00; the December 18, the market takes place at Park Frankendael, from the 11:00 to the 17:00.
OTHER EVENTS
From 21 December 2022 to 22 January 2023, Amsterdam hosts the Light Festival, an event of international appeal with incredible lighting installations in the city. A holiday during the Christmas period, will take you to the discovery of these fantastic works of art that will illuminate, even, buildings and historical places of the city. More info from here.
From December 18th, for 2 weeks, the RAI in Amsterdam hosts the eagerly awaited Winterparadijs, an extraordinary winter event with events, artists, entertainment, stone on ice, Ferris wheel … and much more. Less than 40 km from the capital, however, you will be able to attend one of the most beautiful Christmas Fairs in the Netherlands. It takes place in the charming Keukenhof, famous for the tulip fields of Lisse. Lights, colors and lots of scents await you. Not to be missed.
