Capri has an area of just 10 square kilometers and boasts the presence of only two rather small municipalities.
To move from one point of the island to another, you can choose between buses and funicular. Alternatively, you can use the typical open-top taxis. A suggestive cable car, on the other hand, allows you to reach the top of Monte Solaro.
GETTING AROUND CAPRI ON FOOT
On foot, you can travel exclusively within the towns of Capri, Anacapri and in the areas of Marina Piccola and Marina Grande.
There are routes, quite tiring, to be undertaken on foot. They are only recommended for well-trained people (especially uphill).
From Capri to Marina Grande you can easily walk down the stairs, which cross the road and often pass by the houses. A route that also requires caution during the crossing and to be done especially downhill.
BUS

ATC (Azienda Trasporto Campana) manages bus connections within the island. The transport takes place on mini-buses that are not particularly large, due to the numerous hairpin bends and the size of the roads.
At peak times, expect long queues before entering the vehicle. On the other hand, the frequencies are really excellent, especially at peak times, with departures even every 5 minutes!
Here are the active bus lines to get around Capri:
- Capri – Anacapri, from 06:00 to midnight and, in the opposite direction, from 06:15 to 00:15. Departures every 15 minutes until 10 pm and, thereafter, every 30 minutes. Runs every 5 minutes from 08:00 to 09:15.
- Capri – Marina Grande. In operation from Capri from 06:30 to midnight and from Marina Grande from 06:15 to 00:15. Frequency from 15 to 30 minutes.
- Capri – Marina Piccola. In operation from Capri from 06:00 to 23:15, and from Marina Piccola from 05:10 to 23:00. The frequency varies from a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of one hour.
- Anacapri – Marina Grande DIRECT LINE. In operation from 05:05 to 19:25 from Anacapri and from 05:45 to 21:10 in the opposite direction.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS
For getting around Capri by bus and funicular you need to buy a special ticket for €2.00 per person.
The bus ticket can be purchased directly on board and online on the official website. If you are traveling with a suitcase you will have to buy another ticket (always from 2€).
There are no day tickets or season tickets: you will have to buy a single ticket every time you use the buses.
FUNICULAR
Officially inaugurated in 1907 (although it was already active two years earlier), the Capri Funicular connects Marina Grande with Capri every 15 minutes.
A historic vehicle that, in high season, is literally besieged by tourists, especially when the ships arrive.
After 10pm, it will be possible to move around Capri exclusively by bus or taxi.

CHAIRLIFT OF THE SOLARO

A fascinating way to travel … suspended over the blue of the sea.
The chairlift leaves from Anacapri (via Caposcuro 10) and reaches the top of Monte Solaro, the highest part of the island.
A journey of about 13 minutes for one of the must-see excursions on the island.
The facility has about 156 chairs, and operates non-stop.
From the top you can enjoy a wonderful view. It ranges from the Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius in the background, the Gulf of Salerno, the plain of Anacapri, Ischia and, of course, the Faraglioni
Opening hours: March – April: 9.30 – 16.00. November – February: 9.30 – 15.30. May – October: 9.30 – 17.00. The price of tickets is 12€ for ascent and descent, and 9€ for only ascent or descent.
