French city, located north-east of Corsica; it is the main commercial, industrial and, above all, first port of the island. Bastia is a Corsican city, with a deeply Ligurian soul, with the typical atmosphere of the Genoese “carrugi”, its narrow alleys and the same houses.
It is the natural place to start discovering the beautiful east coast, able to satisfy the tastes and needs of all tourists.
Overlooking the sea, in a privileged position, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summer; average temperatures, even in September, are on average 25 degrees. From here, wonderful views and views of Capraia, Montecristo, the island of Elba and, in some days, even Pianosa.
The port, in addition to being the main freight port of the island, by itself, serves more than 60% of passenger traffic throughout Corsica, and is second only to the port of Calais.
From France, direct connections with Marseille, Toulon and Nice are guaranteed. From Italy, all year round, direct connections with Livorno and Savona and, during the summer, with Golfo Aranci in Sardinia, Piombino and Genoa. There are also two tourist ports.
The city’s main port is located at Quai Nouveau Port de Commerce. In recent years, given the growing number of passengers, it has undergone numerous redevelopment projects. All the main shipping companies pass through here, as well as some cruise ships.
Right outside, buses leave for Bastia and numerous destinations on the island. In the immediate vicinity, you will also find a taxi rank and numerous car rental agencies. The train station is about a 10-minute walk away.
Poretta is the city’s international airport, located in the municipality of Lucciana, about 20 km south of the city. It is among the first 20 airports in France for passenger traffic. During the year, direct connections exclusively with Geneva and the major cities of France.
