Schipol is the city’s main airport and one of the most important in the whole of Europe. For passenger traffic it is among the first on the whole continent. It is located in the small municipality of Haarlemmermeer, less than 20 kilometers from the center.
The airport is structured in a single, immense, building, located 5 meters below sea level; this makes it the lowest civilian airport in the world! Inside, there are numerous shopping centers. Furthermore, wifi is free throughout the area.

AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL – CENTER CONNECTIONS
TRAIN
The recommended method to reach the center is the train. Every hour, there are seven connections to Amsterdam Centraal station. The train station is located under the airport, and can be reached in a couple of minutes with the escalators and the elevator. Just follow the appropriate indications on a yellow background: difficult to make mistakes.
The train takes about 20 minutes to get downtown. Single ticket can be purchased at vending machines and airport operators. The ticket costs 4.70 € and must be validated before embarking on the journey. The price is valid exclusively using an OV-chipkaart. Otherwise, the price is €5.70 per person.
BUS
The bus station is located in Schiphol Platz, just a few minutes walk from the airport exit. Airport Express is the fast road connection that allows you to get to the center in no time. The ticket costs 6.00€ one way and 11.75€ round trip. You can buy the ticket through this link.
CONNECTIONS AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL – NETHERLANDS AND REST OF EUROPE

Schiphol is an important railway connection hub in the Netherlands. From here, in fact, trains leave for The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Leiden and Delft.
The Intercity connects Amsterdam Schiphol with Utrecht Centraal in about 30 minutes. The full-fare ticket, one way, costs 9.70 € and can be purchased online on the official website, or at the automatic machines at the station, or at the airport. Almost identical times, to reach by train The Hague (Den Haag). The comfortable intercity connects Amsterdam Schiphol and Den Haag Centraal in just 29 minutes; the second-class ticket, one way, costs 9.30€.
To reach Rotterdam Centraal, from Amsterdam Schiphol, you can take the Intercity or the fastest Intercity Direct. The first, takes about 50 minutes; the second, instead, less than 30. In both cases, the price is €13.60.
