Casa Battlo has always been one of the must-see attractions on holiday in Barcelona. Completed in 1907, on Passeig de Gracia in the modernist Eixample district, this building represents one of Gaudi’s most original and visionary creations. Since 2005 it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the other 6 works by the Spanish artist. A place as beautiful as it is bizarre. As incredible as it is unique … starting from its magical and fairytale front facade, an element that almost immediately attracts the attention of visitors and passers-by. Pure magic especially after dusk, when Casa Battlo is all lit up. Its balconies call attention to strange figures, even human skulls! The interior is all a whirlwind of waves, curves and spirals that sinuously characterize this work of art. Every corner of the house hides something surprising. Every detail is able to fascinate. But, the key element of the whole building is represented by light. “The sun will penetrate through the four sides and it will be like an image of paradise […] and so my building will be brighter than the light”… this is what Gaudi argued about Casa Battlo. A perfectly successful attempt! PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO GET Casa Battlo, is located at Passeig de Graçia 43, easily accessible by public transport. You can get there with the L2, L3 and L4 lines of the Metro, getting off at the Passeig de Gràcia stop. By Train, get off at Renfe Passeig de Gràcia station, and FGC Provença station. You can use the H10, V15, 7, 22 and 24 bus lines. The Red and Blue lines of the Hop-on-Hop-Off Tourist Bus also stop near the building. From the central Plaça de Catalunya, you can easily walk there in less than 15 minutes. WHAT TO SEE You can immediately admire the beautiful external facade. You will have the opportunity to visit the Noble Floor (the former residence of the Batlló family), the Loft (the former warehouses and laundries), the Terrace with its mythical fireplaces (where the famous backbone of the dragon killed by St. George is located), and the fabulous well (which was once the stairwell). PRACTICAL INFO HOW TO GET The Boqueria Saint Josep, is located in the center, at La Rambla 91 in Barcelona. You can get there easily on foot, crossing the Rambla de Saint Josep, one of the main arteries in Barcelona that connects Plaça de Catalunya with the Port. The market is located almost halfway, about a kilometer north of the Port. After the Mirador de Colom, you will find it on your left. On the contrary, from Plaça de Catalunya, you will find it on your right after about 10 minutes of walking. Thanks to the central location, you can reach the place quite easily by public transport. Liceu is the nearest metro stop, just a few minutes’ walk away. Here, there is also the parking of buses 59, N9, N12 and V13. BOQUERIA SAINT JOSEP OPENING HOURS The market is open from Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 20:00. Closed on Sundays and holidays.
