Getting around Liverpool by public transport, taxi, bus, train. Tickets

Getting around Liverpool

Liverpool city center is not very extensive and you can generally walk around it. Here is a practical guide for getting around Liverpool by taxi and public transport.

GETTING AROUND LIVERPOOL BY BUS

Buses are probably the least used means of transport for tourists who often prefer to opt for the train or taxi. The exception is represented by the connections with the airport.

Stagecoach Merseyside and Arriva North West are the main transport companies with which to travel to Liverpool by bus. Modern and efficient vehicles connect the center, the periphery and the main points of interest.
The vehicles are always identified by a progressive number, followed by a letter that identifies the route. For example, all means that end in A connect the city with the airport. The letter E, on the other hand, identifies an incomplete journey.
Only night lines are identified by the letter N, followed by a number. The night service is guaranteed exclusively by Arriva, on Friday and Saturday, from 23:00 until about 04:00.
The N lines leave from Queen Square, one of Liverpool’s most important bus stations. The station is located near Lime Street station. The Express 500 line to the airport also stops here.

RAILWAY LINE

If you decide to use the railway line, know that in Liverpool you can count on an incredibly modern and efficient service. Indeed, Merseyrail has been recognized as the most reliable transport company in all of England! A recognition obtained for the second year in a row, thanks to almost 95% of punctual trains.

You can opt for two lines, extremely efficient, with which it will be possible getting around Liverpool to the center and the suburbs.
Northern Line and Wirral Line are two partially underground lines, which extend over a route of about 120 kilometers, for almost 70 stations.
The lines intersect at Liverpool Central, the busiest station in the city, in tariff zone C3. South Parkway, in the same area, offers shuttle connections to the international airport. Lime Street, on the other hand, is the reference station for long-distance connections, such as Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds or London.

Both lines operate regularly, from morning until evening. From Monday to Saturday, from 07:00 to 19:00, the frequency is always 15 minutes.

TAXI

The taxi service, both public and private, is strictly regulated. The meter must be clearly visible and, sometimes, some private individuals must display the price of the ride on the side.
Taxis are modern and efficient although quite expensive. Uber and the like are much more than a valid and economical alternative.
