CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN BASEL 2023
MUNSTER

The most beloved Christmas market in Basel takes place in Münsterplatz. The square, dominated by the splendid Cathedral, is probably the most beautiful in the city.
You can walk through the stands, looking for the perfect gift or simply enjoying the Christmas atmosphere. You can be enchanted by the beautiful tree, decorated by Johann Wanner. This is a shop specializing in decorations, particularly loved even by real English!
You will hardly leave Münsterplatz without tasting the Läckerli of Basel, the fragrant gingerbread of the place.
Do not miss a taste of “Änis-Paradies“.
Grilled würstel are the timeless classic.
This is also the square most loved by children thanks to the timeless Enchanted Forest.
The Münsterplatz market is open every day, from the 23/11 to the 22/12, from the 11:00 to the 20:30. On December 23rd, closing at 18:00.
BARFUSSERPLATZ
A few minutes walk from the main square, many artisans and sellers will welcome you among finely decorated stalls.
Also in this case, there will be excellent food, typical products, artifacts and decorations.
We recommend a good glass of mulled wine.
Beautiful square, all decked, between lights and colors, with the beautiful church to frame.
The markets are open every day, from 23/11 to 22/12, from 11:00 to 20:30. On December 23rd, closing at 20:00.
REINGHASSE
The Christmas market in Basel is more alternative and far from traditional schemes. Simple, welcoming but, at the same time, engaging, the Reinghasse market is a must for a holiday.
To buy unusual gifts, savor the excellent refutation, taste typical cheeses, arranged on large tables in the middle of the road!
No specific rules. Nobody knows what to expect.
Reinghasse is located on the opposite side of the river, from Münsterplatz. Just walk for about ten minutes and cross the bridge that crosses the Rhine.
Flea markets are open from the end of November to 23 December, Monday through Friday, from 17:00 to 22:00. Saturday and Sunday, from 14:00 to 22:00.
CHRISTMAS IN BASEL 2023: THE EVENTS
Thursday 23 November, at 18:30 at the tip, there will be the official opening ceremony of Christmas in Basel. At Münsterplatz, lighting of the lights with the accompaniment of a musical ensemble.
Christmas in Basel is a magical moment dedicated to everyone and, in particular, to the little ones. In Münsterplatz, as usual, the Enchanted Forest. A magical place where children can decorate Läckerli, Lebkuchen and Gutzi, that is, biscuits and gingerbread typical of Basel. They can create shapes, decorations and candles. Traveling on the children’s train …
Guaranteed fun.
Open from 27 November to 22 December, Monday to Friday from 13:30 to 19:00. Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00.
Each year, during the festive period, the Basel Cathedral becomes the absolute protagonist. The striking staircase of the Martinsturm is illuminated from Monday to Friday between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm. From 28 November to 23 December 2023 do not miss the climb to the top of the bell tower, with a splendid view of the festively illuminated historic center. Show for adults and children. Admission costs CHF 6 per person. Last admission at 5.30pm.
